In 2018 we managed properties. By 2025 we built the software we wished we’d had.

MapleConcierge is Canadian property management software — tenant portal, maintenance requests, rent ledger, and a built-in AI receptionist. It is built and run by Joel & Nanz Inc., a family business founded in 2018 in Moncton, New Brunswick, by founder Joel Gathercole.

MapleConcierge wasn’t born in a Silicon Valley basement. It was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, after one too many 11 PM phone calls about a leaky faucet.

Why we built this

Joel & Nanz Inc. was founded in 2018 as a property company. Not a software vendor, not a startup — an operator. We took the calls ourselves. We wrote the leases ourselves. We chased the late payments ourselves. We explained to a tenant why the contractor couldn’t come Tuesday — ourselves.

After a few years one thing was clear: the existing software was either built for U.S. firms with 5,000 doors, or it was built for nobody at all. Canadian property managers — the ones with 20, 50, 200 units, two languages, one province or three — didn’t have a tool that fit.

“We built MapleConcierge because we ran out of patience answering tenant calls about leaky faucets at 11 PM.”

So we built it. First for ourselves. Then for a few operator friends who asked “can we use it too?”. Now for the property managers who find us by search.

30 years of telephony — and why it matters

Founder Joel Gathercole has been building VoIP systems since 2002. Before “cloud” became a buzzword. Before Twilio. Before 1-800 numbers were provisioned like coffee orders.

That detail matters: in property management, the phone is still tool number one. Tenants call. Owners call. Contractors call. And the system behind that phone — AI receptionist, routing, transcription, follow-up — has to be built by someone who knows what a SIP INVITE is, not just someone who can call an API.

That is why MapleConcierge ships with a built-in AI receptionist instead of a bolted-on add-on with hidden per-minute fees. Telephony is in the DNA, not an afterthought.
